Gold climbed back toward the $4,700 level for the first time in roughly 101 days, extending one of its strongest monthly rallies of the year. The precious metal has gained approximately 15% in August, adding more than $4.3 trillion to its estimated global market value as investors increased allocations to safe-haven assets amid a weaker U.S. dollar and shifting interest rate expectations.
Silver has outperformed gold during the same period, rising about 19% this month and adding more than $620 billion in market value. Together, gold and silver have gained nearly $5 trillion in combined market capitalization, highlighting broad investor demand for precious metals as both monetary and industrial assets.
The rally underscores renewed momentum across the precious metals market after several months of consolidation. Continued demand from institutional investors, central banks, and ETF inflows has helped support prices, while expectations of lower real interest rates have reinforced gold’s role as a portfolio hedge against macroeconomic uncertainty.
