European Brent crude’s spot price was $125.44 a barrel on October 6, the latest observation in data published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The agency’s October 7 release tracks daily closing spot prices; it does not provide a live quote for October 9.

The latest figure was seven cents below the $125.51 recorded on October 5. Both readings followed a sharper move to $135.51 on October 2. By October 6, the European benchmark had fallen $10.07, or about 7.4%, from that earlier observation.

In the same table, West Texas Intermediate at Cushing, Oklahoma, stood at $96.24 a barrel on October 6, up from $96.13 the previous day. That left European Brent $29.20 above the U.S. spot benchmark. The figures refer to different crude streams and delivery locations.

EIA defines a spot price as the price of a one-time open-market transaction for immediate delivery at a specified location. Brent is a North Sea crude benchmark used to price other oil streams, while the WTI series measures the domestic spot market at Cushing.

For comparison, we reported Brent futures at $102.48 in a delayed October 5 morning quote. Futures contracts and dated physical spot assessments have different delivery terms and observation times, so the two quotations should not be read as a like-for-like measure of Brent’s movement during a session.
