Key Notes

  • Apple began iPhone Duo sales on October 23 across its initial markets, with another 28 countries and regions due to follow October 30.
  • AAPL reached a record $348.36 on October 22 and closed at $348.22, gaining 1.23% ahead of the retail launch.
  • The foldable starts at $1,999 in the US, with shipments and profitability still needed to quantify its contribution to Apple’s business.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) began worldwide sales of its first foldable iPhone on October 23, bringing the $1,999 iPhone Duo to stores after the stock reached an all-time high in the preceding session.

AAPL touched $348.36 on October 22, a record identified in TradingView’s price data. The shares closed at $348.22, up $4.23, or 1.23%, according to historical prices. Those figures describe Thursday’s completed session, ahead of Friday’s retail debut.

Apple’s launch-day update showed customers trying and buying the device in London, Mumbai and Shanghai. For shareholders, the next question is how that opening interest translates into deliveries, revenue and profit during the holiday shopping period.

A Global Rollout for Apple’s First Foldable

The October 23 release follows a week of preorders that began October 16. Apple’s original announcement put the first wave in more than 70 countries and regions, including the United States, China, India, Japan and major European markets. Another 28 countries and regions are scheduled to follow October 30.

That makes the launch broad, although availability is still being phased across markets. Customers can shop through Apple’s website, its retail stores and the Apple Store app, with specialists offering demonstrations and help transferring data.

The US starting price is $1,999 for 256GB, with 512GB, 1TB and 2TB configurations also offered. Buyers can choose Star White or Night Sky. Trade-ins, financing and leasing options may reduce the upfront payment, but eligibility and terms differ.

As we reported at the unveiling, Duo adds a substantially different design to the iPhone lineup. It is a premium expansion of the range, rather than a replacement for every conventional iPhone.

AAPL’s Record Raises the Stakes for Deliveries

The stock’s advance puts the launch in a different setting from September’s product presentation. Investors now have a retail product to assess, rather than only an announced device and a future release date.

Earlier preorder availability offered one indication of interest. We previously reported that new US online orders moved into January after the initial allocation was committed. That was a snapshot of a particular sales channel, not a count of worldwide purchases or today’s inventory.

Long delivery estimates can reflect strong demand, limited supply or both. Launch photographs and queues likewise show customers participating, but do not establish unit volumes. Apple’s launch-day update did not disclose a global sales total or a revenue contribution for Duo.

For AAPL, the important distinction is between enthusiasm and fulfillment. A premium phone can increase spending per customer, but the financial benefit depends on how many units ship, what they cost to produce and whether buyers would otherwise have chosen another Apple model.

Apps Give the Larger Screen a Financial Role

Apple’s product page describes a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen. The A20 Pro-powered device can unfold into a larger workspace while retaining a compact closed form.

The commercial argument extends beyond the hinge. Multitasking and applications that adapt to the larger display give customers a reason to use the additional space, potentially strengthening the case for paying a premium.

Apple’s October 22 developer update highlighted apps for entertainment, gaming, creativity and productivity. App Store collections for the device begin Friday, with optimized apps identified by a Made for iPhone Duo badge and more updates planned during the year.

Netflix, for example, lets users browse Clips on the outer display before continuing on the larger inner screen. Such adaptations help explain the product’s appeal, although Apple has not quantified additional services revenue attributable to the foldable.

Holiday Sales Must Build on an Earlier Earnings Base

Apple entered the launch cycle after a strong June quarter. Its July 30 results showed revenue of $109.4 billion, up 16% year over year, and diluted earnings of $2.02 a share, up 29%.

Those results covered the period ended June 27 and predated Duo. Earnings included an 11-cent-per-share benefit from tariff refunds, while reported gross margin of 50.1% included an approximately two-percentage-point benefit from the refunds.

The figures provide a historical benchmark, not a forecast for the new phone. The next financial disclosures will help show whether the latest product cycle supports growth across Apple’s wider business, including the effect of its mix of models and delivery schedules.

The immediate milestone is clear: Apple’s first foldable has reached customers across its initial markets, with AAPL coming into the release after a record. Sustaining that momentum will require converting interest in the new design into profitable shipments.
