Chinese AI startup Moonshot AI is considering raising as much as $5 billion through a Hong Kong IPO, potentially making it one of the largest AI listings to date. The company has confidentially filed for the offering and is currently valued at about $50 billion in an ongoing funding round. The final IPO size and timing remain subject to regulatory approval and market conditions.
Moonshot’s rapid rise has been fueled by Kimi K3, its latest open-weight AI model. Released in July, Kimi K3 contains 2.8 trillion parameters, making it the world’s largest open-weight model by parameter count, according to the developer.
The model’s emergence has intensified competition between Chinese and U.S. AI developers. Kimi K3 has attracted significant attention for its performance across coding, reasoning and agentic tasks, reinforcing concerns that China’s open-model ecosystem is rapidly narrowing the technological gap with leading American AI labs.
