X is moving deeper into financial services with the launch of a new U.S. Cashtag Program that allows users to explore stocks and cryptocurrencies directly from ticker symbols appearing across the social network.
When users tap a supported Cashtag, such as a stock or cryptocurrency ticker preceded by a dollar sign, X now displays an expanded market page containing a price chart, related posts and a Trade button.
The Trade button does not mean X itself is executing transactions. Instead, users are redirected to participating brokerages or cryptocurrency exchanges, where they can complete the transaction through their existing or newly created accounts.
The initial partners include Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase, according to X Business. The feature is initially available to users in the United States.
X Turns Cashtags Into Financial Market Hubs
Cashtags have existed on X and its predecessor Twitter for years, providing a simple way for investors to organize conversations around publicly traded companies and cryptocurrencies.
The new program significantly expands their role.
Instead of functioning primarily as searchable financial hashtags, Cashtags can now serve as entry points into dedicated market pages combining pricing information with the real-time conversations that have long made X popular among traders.
Users can examine a price chart, browse posts discussing the asset and then select the Trade button to continue to one of X’s participating financial platforms.
That creates a more direct connection between market discussion and the point at which an investor decides to execute a transaction.
Importantly, X is acting as a gateway rather than a broker or cryptocurrency exchange. Actual orders are handled by the external financial institutions participating in the program.
Interactive Brokers, Coinbase and Kraken Join at Launch
X’s initial partner lineup spans both traditional securities and digital assets.
Interactive Brokers and Moomoo provide brokerage services for investors trading stocks and other financial instruments, while Coinbase, Kraken and Gemini are major cryptocurrency trading platforms.
The structure potentially gives X a way to monetize the enormous volume of financial discussion taking place on the platform without having to build its own brokerage infrastructure.
For participating financial companies, meanwhile, the integration offers direct access to X users at precisely the moment they are researching or discussing an investment.
That could make Cashtags particularly valuable around earnings announcements, major cryptocurrency moves and breaking corporate news, when financial conversations on X can accelerate rapidly.
Musk Continues Building X Into an ‘Everything App’
The Cashtag expansion fits Elon Musk’s broader ambition to transform X beyond its origins as a social network.
Musk has repeatedly described his vision for X as an “everything app” combining communications, media, payments and financial services within a single ecosystem.
The company has already been expanding its financial ambitions through X Money, its payments platform.
Adding brokerage and crypto exchange connections brings another part of that strategy closer to the investment world without requiring X to directly custody assets or execute securities trades.
For now, the Cashtag Program remains limited to the United States, and users still leave X to complete their transactions with participating financial providers.
Even so, the launch represents a significant change in how financial content works on the platform.
X has long been one of the internet’s busiest destinations for market rumors, breaking financial news and investor commentary. By placing market data and trading links directly alongside those conversations, the company is attempting to shorten the path between seeing market information, discussing an asset and potentially trading it.
