South Korea’s SK Group and NVIDIA have announced a strategic partnership valued at more than $500 billion, aiming to accelerate the development of next-generation artificial intelligence infrastructure and advanced memory technologies. The agreement further strengthens collaboration between one of the world’s leading AI chip designers and the conglomerate behind SK Hynix, the global leader in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI accelerators.
The partnership will focus on expanding AI computing infrastructure, advancing next-generation memory technologies, and increasing manufacturing capacity to meet rapidly growing demand for AI hardware. As generative AI adoption accelerates worldwide, hyperscale cloud providers and enterprise customers continue investing hundreds of billions of dollars in data centers equipped with increasingly powerful AI chips and high-performance memory.
SK Hynix has become one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom, controlling approximately 56.4% of the global HBM memory market. Its HBM chips are widely used alongside NVIDIA’s GPUs powering AI training and inference workloads. The companies’ closer collaboration is expected to accelerate the development of future AI platforms that require faster memory bandwidth, greater energy efficiency, and improved performance.
The announcement comes shortly after SK Hynix completed its record-breaking U.S. listing, raising $26.5 billion in the largest IPO ever by a foreign company in the United States. The company has already stated that proceeds from the offering will be used to expand semiconductor production and purchase additional EUV lithography equipment in South Korea, supporting future AI memory demand.
Industry analysts view the partnership as another sign that competition in artificial intelligence is increasingly shifting from software toward infrastructure. While companies race to build more capable AI models, semiconductor manufacturers, cloud providers, and hardware suppliers are investing unprecedented sums into the computing systems needed to support them.
