The drones operate throughout the day, flying over residential neighborhoods and producing a high-pitched hum that some residents describe as disruptive, despite acknowledging the technology itself as impressive.
The service allows Prime subscribers to receive packages weighing up to about 2.3 kilograms within a roughly 13-kilometer radius of Amazon’s Richardson fulfillment center. The drone option costs $4.99 per delivery and is positioned as a faster alternative to traditional same-day shipping.
The rollout highlights the growing tension between rapid logistics innovation and community impact. As Amazon scales its drone program, noise regulation and local acceptance are emerging as key challenges alongside technical performance.
