Blockchain investigator ZachXBT reported multiple cases of Trust Wallet users experiencing unexpected fund losses shortly after updating the Chrome extension. According to early findings, the incident appears to be linked specifically to version 2.68, raising concerns about a potential exploit introduced during the update process.

Trust Wallet later acknowledged the issue, confirming that a security vulnerability affected the Chrome extension. The company urged users to immediately upgrade to version 2.69, stating that the newer release mitigates the risk while an internal investigation continues. Trust Wallet emphasized that the problem does not affect other platforms or wallet versions.

The incident has reignited concerns around browser-based crypto wallets and supply-chain risks, where compromised updates can expose users despite following standard security practices. Analysts note that extension-based wallets remain attractive targets due to their wide adoption and direct access to private keys.

Trust Wallet said it is actively working to identify the root cause and assess the full scope of affected users. The company also reiterated best practices, including keeping software updated and remaining cautious about browser permissions during periods of heightened security risk.
