In 2013, entrepreneur Jamie Siminoff appeared on Shark Tank pitching DoorBot, a smart video doorbell. He asked for $700,000 in exchange for 10% of his company, but every investor passed, unconvinced by the product’s potential. The rejection was public and definitive.
Instead of giving up, Siminoff refined the technology, rebranded DoorBot as Ring, and focused on improving usability and security features. The product gradually gained traction, attracting customers and outside investors without the Sharks’ backing.
In 2018, Amazon acquired Ring for more than $1 billion, turning the once-rejected founder into a billionaire entrepreneur. Years later, Siminoff returned to Shark Tank – this time as a guest expert – offering guidance to founders standing exactly where he once stood.
