Ethereum Proposes Shorter Rollup Withdrawal Times to Speed Layer-2 Adoption

Ethereum aims to cut Stage 1 rollup withdrawal times to 1–2 days, enhancing Layer-2 usability and adoption.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed reducing withdrawal times for Stage 1 optimistic rollups to between one and two days, down from the current seven-day period. The goal is to improve user experience and support wider adoption of Layer 2 networks.

Stage 2 rollups would maintain longer withdrawal times to preserve higher levels of decentralization and security. Developers are exploring ways to shorten dispute periods while keeping robust fraud-proof mechanisms in place.

The proposed update could make Ethereum’s ecosystem more attractive to traders and DeFi users frustrated by slow fund exits, though some experts caution that faster withdrawals may increase operational risks if not carefully implemented.
