OpenAI is preparing a five-year plan to finance more than $1 trillion in infrastructure to meet pledged computing capacity, spanning data centers, chips, energy, and backup cloud. Management has outlined ambitions for tens of gigawatts of AI compute and multi-year server rentals, far beyond current cash flows, implying blended financing from partners, capital markets, and long-term supply agreements.
The plan follows earlier signals that total commitments could climb toward $1.4 trillion over a longer horizon, with analysts highlighting a substantial funding gap relative to OpenAI’s reported revenue scale. The buildout would reshape supply chains across semiconductors, power, and construction, while concentrating demand among a handful of hyperscale AI buyers and utilities.
