Investor and Shark Tank personality Kevin O’Leary said the majority of altcoins have already “disappeared,” arguing that only Bitcoin and Ethereum have the scale, regulatory traction and institutional relevance to remain viable. He described many smaller tokens as “bad coins,” noting that they lacked sustainable use cases and failed to survive recent market cycles.

O’Leary emphasized that institutional adoption continues to consolidate around Bitcoin and Ethereum, which he views as the only digital assets with long-term staying power. He cited their liquidity, regulatory clarity in key markets and integration into financial products as reasons they stand apart from the broader crypto ecosystem.

According to O’Leary, the industry is entering a period of maturity where capital shifts toward assets perceived as credible, compliant and durable. This, he said, will likely accelerate the decline of speculative altcoins and reinforce the dominance of the two leading cryptocurrencies.
